SAMPLE ITINERARY

Day 1, HANOI, VIETNAM.
Arrive In Hanoi, Vietnam on Sunday. Rooms are ready for immediate check-in. Meet your tour director and traveling companions early this afternoon for a brief meeting before your afternoon tour. Begin by looking at Vietnam’s capital with a stop at the infamous "Hanoi Hilton." Visit the fascinating Old Quarter, ancient streets where peddlers trade as they have for centuries. Early this evening become better acquainted with your travelling companions at a Welcome Reception hosted by your tour director.

Day 2, HANOI.
Today’s sightseeing takes time to look at the life of Ho Chi Minh, the father of modern Vietnam. First visit the MAUSOLEUM and the humble cottage from which "Uncle Ho" ruled Vietnam until his death in 1969. Next on the agenda are the ONE PILLAR PAGODA, the Ho Chi Minh Museum, and the Presidential Palace. Finish with a visit to the ancient TEMPLE OF LITERATURE, over 900 years old and Hanoi’s first university. (B)

Day 3, HANOI. HA LONG BAY EXCURSION.
Travel from Hanoi through the fertile countryside to Hon Gai, gateway to Ha Long Bay, a World Heritage Site. The bay in the Gulf of Tonkin is dotted with over 3,000 limestone islands, carved into fanciful shapes by the action of the water. Tunnels, caves, and weirdly shaped outcroppings with imaginative names can be found on many of the small islets that are sprinkled across the bay. Board a cruise that takes you to explore the caves and admire the beauty and scale before stopping at one of the many secluded bays. Return to Hanoi late this evening. (B,L)

Day 4, HANOI-HO CHI MINH CITY .
A short flight to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). This afternoon a walking tour of famous and historic city landmarks. The tour will take you through the heart of the city along Dong Khoi Street (formerly Rue Catinat), past the Rex Hotel, Ho Chi Minh Square, the Municipal Theatre, and Notre Dame Cathedral. Following a tour of the REUNIFICATION PALACE (formerly the Presidential Palace) and the War Remnants Museum, drive to Cholon, the Chinatown district of the city, for a visit to the huge BINH TAY MARKET and the ornate THIEN HAU PAGODA. Day 5, HO CHI MINH CITY. CU CHI EXCURSION.
Leave the city, driving through vast expanses of rice paddies to visit the CU CHI TUNNELS, an extraordinary network of tunnels more than 120 miles in length that were used by the Viet Cong as a hideout and secret village during the war. Return to Ho Chi Minh City with the afternoon at leisure. (B,L)

Day 6, HO CHI MINH CITY. MEKONG CRUISE EXCURSION.
Enjoy a cruise on the great Mekong River. Travel south to My Tho, gateway to the Mekong Delta and Vietnam’s "rice bowl." Board your boat and travel to an island in the middle of the delta where you can visit a local family’s home, enjoy their hospitality, and share some tea or rice wine. Tonight try some of the local cuisine, an interesting blend of French and Asian flavors. (B,L)

Day 7, HO CHI MINH CITY-SIEM REAP (ANGKOR), CAMBODIA.
Today a quick flight brings you to Siem Reap, which will act as your base during your visit to the temples at Angkor, considered by many to be the most spectacular architectural ruins found on earth! All these monuments encompass various periods of Khmer history from its beginning, through the colonial age, and into its decline. (B,L,D)

Day 8, SIEM REAP-CHIANG RAI, THAILAND .
Today is at leisure for independent activities. This afternoon transfer to your flight to exotic Chiang Rai. (B)

Day 9, CHIANG RAI.
Get acquainted with this former capital city on a morning tour featuring WAT PHRA KAEW, the city’s most revered Buddhist temple, and local market. Your tour director has sightseeing and shopping suggestions to help you make the most of your afternoon at leisure in this charming city. (B)

Day 10, CHIANG RAI. VISIT TO THE GOLDEN TRIANGLE.
Leave the city today and drive through the countryside of Chiang Rai province to the famed Golden Triangle, where Myanmar (formerly Burma), Laos, and Thailand meet along the Mekong River. Enjoy the best views of the Triangle from the hilltop where WAT PHRA THAT PHUKHAO temple stands. The Golden Triangle was legendary for its role in the opium trade. Learn about opium production at the OPIUM MUSEUM before returning to Chiang Rai. (B)

Day 11, CHIANG RAI-BANGKOK.
This morning fly into Bangkok. First on the sightseeing agenda is WAT ARUN, the Temple of Dawn. Next are the GRAND PALACE, the truly grand seat of the court of old Siam, and the adjoining royal temple, WAT PHRA KEO, housing the 31-inch Emerald Buddha and the RECLINING BUDDHA. (B)

Day 12, BANGKOK.
A full day free for you to explore this fascinating city. Perhaps join a full-day tour. See the floating markets with a stop at the Rose Garden and a folklore performance, or see the Bridge over the River Kwai, or the ancient capital of Ayutthaya. (B)

Day 13, BANGKOK.
Another day for independent sightseeing or perhaps for souvenir shopping, or join one of the day or afternoon optional tours. Your tour director will be happy to offer some suggestions. This evening, your tour director hosts a farewell dinner. (B,D)

Early this morning you may wish to start the day like the locals, attending a Tai Chi class in the park. During the morning’s sightseeing tour, take a cable tramcar up Victoria Peak for a panoramic view of this one-of-a-kind port city, and enjoy a drive to Repulse Bay, a popular beach. Then on to Stanley Market where narrow streets are filled with inexpensive clothing and arts and crafts stalls. The remainder of the day is free. (B)

Day 16, HONG KONG.
A free day to explore this exciting city. Shopping is always a highlight of Hong Kong. There are markets, malls, and shops to fit any budget and taste. For those who want to try out some of the local fare, head over to Lan Kwai Fong Street or a teahouse on Tang Lung Street. (B)

"Guaranteed Share" Option for single travelers. To give single travelers an alternative to the single supplement, reservations are accepted on a a "guaranteed share" basis. You will be charged the basic double occupancy price and will be matched up with another single of the same gender in a twin-bedded room. For mutual comfort, shared rooms are on a non-smoking basis. If no other tour member has booked on a guaranteed share basis, you will be accommodated in a single room at no additional charge. Guaranteed share basis is unavailable on some tours. For single travelers who prefer the privacy of their own room, single accommodations can be reserved with the single supplement. Hotels are occasionally unable to provide enough single rooms. If this occurs, you will be asked to share a room with a tour member of the same gender, and the tour director will offer a refund on the spot.
